i am ready to share my high level dedicated server, which is being used only 20% of its resources with one wallpaper site. So i have plenty of space & resources to offer.

    100% up time

  4. many hosting will say unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space, domains, mysql. what they say in very fine print is, that the more you use, the slower it will go! hostgater is for sure this way. the all you can use is a comeon. Do you really think I can put 100 domains on hostgator, and use all the bandwidth and space I want and they can afford it? they can't and no one can. I now have almost 100 domains on a hostgator and it is so slow its all but useless. Going into my webmaster tools and seeing my sites performance continue to get worse is proof.

I am moving my sites back to my own servers where I can control cpu, and what type of hard drive they are on. A shared server can have 8 processors in it but if the hard drives are sata then your iops will suck and the server is worthless. I have learned this the hardway. As sites use more and more database the sql is so important and the amount of memory in the system is very important. and super fast drives. I now have two of them. One in server and one about ready to go live. waiting on more memory.

Wallpaper scripts use poor sql queris and kill the disk io pulling out full resolution pictures that can be 2 or 4 megs in size. Its more about memory and iops or the disk speed. fast cpus are nice, but without the hard drive your site will suffer.

and with Google now counting site speed you better plan on a fast site to get anywheres.

I have over 50 wallpaper sites on different servers running different scripts. I will now only put sites on my servers where I can add memory or the right sas 15K hard drive or whatever I think it needs and not what I am pushed into getting. I also have 100Mb fiber so it makes it even better to have my own server sitting there.

a small account is great to get going and build up your site, but have a plan to move easily when you get moving traffic. if you stay with say a hostgator, then your site will go slower as it gets more traffic. I am sure all shared servers do the same thing.

  10. well Aman... It all depends on you.. how much you are ready to invest .. If you have a really very big website and you do have lots of traffic, then you can go for your own dedicates server and this will be best for you..

But, if you have a small website and traffic is not much, then you can go for any shared hosting as long as these websites are not your bread and butter.

For a new website steps are like ..

    1. New website less traffic ==> Use any shared hosting like hostgator or hostdime.. etc etc..

    2. Little higher traffic and your earning is also little more, then you can upgrade it to a VPS..

    3. Heavy traffic. ==> Go for a dedicated server :)

I believe this rules are for the websites which are not business critical, so minimum downtime is acceptable..

I think you have hosted your website with hostgator.. but what is the issue ? Is that not good ?
