Hiya, ive run about 4 sites using the wallpaper script on my current hosting and not had a single problem but most of the sites i have ruin have under 2000 wallpapers, recently i uploaded a new site http://www.freehdwallpaper.net and the site has gone really slow, upon invetsigating the site my hosts told me that it was down to the thumbnails folder with the message below....my question is, is there anything i can do to fix this ? or will i need to find new hosting, id rather not find new hosting as the company i am with Heart Internet have been brilliant and until now for a full year i have not had a single problem with them. this is what they said and it doesnt make much sense to me
Hi Liam,
Thanks for your reply. I've actually been able to replicate the "initial" increased loading time you refer to here, after which the page does load, but the initial response is relatively slow - My initial investigation shows that the site is hanging for a considerable amount of time due to images within the "thumbs" directory - This doesn't appear to relate to a particular image as such, and does vary per page - But *always* (I've ran around 10 tests on various pages) on a "thumbs" image such as http://freehdwallpaper.net/thumbs/22-t1.jpg
Whilst accessing the image directly doesn't appear to take an increased amount of time to load - Can I ask, are these thumbnails generated on-the-fly? If so, it may be worthwhile investigating cache techniques as the site gets more and more popular the number of "generations" will increase, which will not only delay the response to your visitors but also increase the load on the web server.
The web server itself however (at this time), is stable, so it's just locating exactly what is causing this increased time on your website.
any help, tips or advice would be greatyly appreciated
thanks
Liam
