  1. Hi all,

I know you are impatient to try the new WallpaperScript release but I would like to ask you to have a little more patience 24-48 hours to check and test the new features that will come with this version.

Among the features this version will have I can mention a few here:
    - modules to extend the script and create new and cool stuff
    - new language system that permits anyone to translate it to any language they want very easily from the admin interface
    - watermarks
    - automated link exchange
    - new tag system
    - new category and tag selection interface
    - ability to set meta information for categories and wallpapers

Due to some problems that occurred during latest tests we have postponed the launched of this version a bit. Please be patient. I will announce here when the new version will be ready for download.

Take your time and there's no rush. I would rather have a script with no bugs. Goodluck with the new updates.

  7. Hi!

    1) How can someone who have version 3.2 can update?

ANSWER: As you know downloading a new version for existing customers is free. Updating from an old version to new ones may have problems. It can be done but we will give these instructions after new version launch.

    2) will there be an improvment in support for big amount of wallpapers? i have something like 30,000 wallpapers and the site becoming slow everyday I need to optimze the SQL database to make it a little bit faster

ANSWER: Script supports such number of wallpapers with no problem. Indeed is better to make SQL database optimizations. Also in new version some issues related to slow loading were fixed.

  8. I'm glad to see that there will be fix regarding the speed.

What kind of hosting plans you recommand for site like this? What kind of plan can support the script with high number of wallpapers?

    regular hosting plans? vps? dedicated?

    Thanks

    Posted 3 years ago #
  9. I think vps or dedicated... if you can start it and think takes some time till will have traffic then should be fine... but when your site will have lots of traffic you should move to a dedicated one... and here in time will need to make upgrades depending site growth.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  10. Thanks for this piece of advice :)

Right now i'm on a regular hosting pack at host gator and yhey dont have a vps pack.

Can you please Recommand us a good and economy vps hosting service?

one more thing - can i move my website (wallpaperscript) to a different hosting service and how to do that (I mean beside moving the folder, SQL...)?

    Thanks

  11. Sorry I prefer not to recommand one. About moving site. Beforo doing that you need to backup all files and also make a database backup. When you make a files back-up take care how you do it because if you copy files from ftp on your hard drive for example you may have problems or surprises. An example is that most of hosting servers have set a limit of 2000 files to be shown on ftp so you must take care in this case cause you may be tricked and loose wallpapers because you did not realize that and only copied 2000 as seen from that directory.

Also assuming back up was correctly done and you have made this process 100% (files and database) when you copy it on new server make sure you will change database connection data and will give correct written permissions to directories that wallpaperscript need to have these permissions set in order to work fine.

Also when doing such things like moving on other servers can ask our assistance but this will not be for free of course.

Is there any news about new release?

Hey guys. I've been using the script for a while now and I have a small feature request for this release of the script. Currently the way the script handles storing the wallpapers and thumbs is not very efficient and causes some problems when trying to manage them through FTP and backing up the server.

I only found this out after having spent over 6 hours transferring files from the old hosts to the new host. My partner and I have wallpaper sites with about 20k of walls in each of our databases and the walls folder has about 70k items it. This is completely unmanageable using most FTP clients as they timeout horribly or just get lost when they are gathering the file list or just lockup when in the process of transferring the files.

Can you guys change the way the files are stored in both the walls and thumbs directory? I was thinking that you could setup a directory structure in the walls and thumbs directories to mimic the category structure. Another idea is to offer a setting in the admin panel that allow the webmaster to choose how many files are stored in each of the sub folders than when it reaches the number specified, it creates another folder and then adds new wallpapers there and so on. This would allow the site owner to better manage the site and keep the folders at a size that would provide the optimum performance results. I think this would be a great addition to the script and very useful for all the sites that have very large number of wallpapers.

  14. He is right! tommeyboy you are the man!

I'm using your script and another wallpaper script from another company who I won't detail about.

Your script is far more advance and customizeable then them and i also like it better, but both of my wallpapers site have preaty much the same amount of wallpapers and because of the wall folder structure of your script my web site barely move.

The other script on the other hand runing smothly - I belive because of the wallpaper folder structure.

Please guys I love your script better, I really do but you should do something about the preformance of it.

  15. Rafizzz - As far as a host I would recommend using MOSSO.com, they are a massively scalable cloud platform that can handle insane amounts of traffic, if not more than a dedicated server. They are owned by rackspace (the best host there is) and have the best 24/7 live support.

Myself and Tommeyboy use them and our sites are blazing fast with 100% uptime. You can use referral code "REF-EPIC" and we will both get a free month from them.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  16. Thanks for the info epic!

    I really like your website.
Specially the thumbs in the front page like in wallpaperstock.net
    How did you do that?

About Mosso hosting - I will check it and if it good i'll take it and put your referral code. I promise.
Just tell me which hosting plan you recommand there.

    Thanks,
    Rafael

They really only have one. The other plans are just more b/w, CPU, and/or disk.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  18. How much you get to pay a month?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  19. Hi all,

To rafizzz and tommeyboy: I have thought of having categories folders but moving wallpapers between categories would create a few problems. The version you have stores all the resolutions in the same folder and that creates a lot of files. The new version stores only the originals in the walls folder and the rest in another folder. The other files are generated on view so it will be faster to bulk upload and upload wallpapers now.

We are still fixing bugs and as soon we don't see any problems you can download the new version. You can look at wallpapers.net to see how it moves the script now. The site has over 26k wallpapers.

  21. Hi thedigitalgenius!

    In response to your question:

I'm a member of txtnation & zong and wondered if the "send to mobile" featured will be included in the update, i see it on your site already...

Not at this moment but if there will be more requests we will surely create a plugin for this pretty soon.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  22. Rafizzz - You can set it to 4 rows in config.php, at the bottom you just play around with the thumbnail sizes. I dont remember exactly how Ive done a lot of things ;p Ive done a lot of customization.

  23. Hi all,

We are glad to announce the release of version 3.5 . The script has been released a few minutes ago.

To download the new version you can use the same link you used to download the script for the first time.

To upgrade from a previous version to current version you have to follow the next steps:

    1. try to make a backup before anything else. I know is a bit much because the wallpapers take a lot but you can at least save the db

    2. upload all the files from the new script and overwrite the old ones. Do not overwrite db_info.php cause you won't be able to connect to the database anymore

    3. Now you need to run updates/update_settings.php

    4. Now run updates/update_to_3.5.php
Depending of how many wallpapers do you have in your site the updates can take more or less time to process.
If you have many wallpapers the update script must have at least 64MB allocated to run and maximum execution time should be enough to permit to it to finish (at least 5mins for 30k wallpapers).

    5. You are done. You upgraded the script to version 3.5

Hope all will go well for everybody.

As usual we will be here to solve any problems if they appear.

  24. Hi all!!!

    Epic
as I promise I registered to mosso, Please check about the referral benefits for us.

    Admin
Here are several stuff i would like to see in the next ver.

    1)much faster speed
2)daily auto optimization of the SQL - if it can be done through the script.
3)much easier way to replace/edit stuff in the theme like the website top logo etc...
4)social networks buttons like your other websites.
5)thumbnails in the front page - more view options (for example to add a view like in wallpaperstock.net - size, wide/original tags, ranks).
6)effect when pressing on a thumb.
7)in the wallpaper page bellow i think there should be 6 more thumbs for more wallpapers from the same category and left and right button to navigate between them (I think it's in Ajax).

8)IPhone wallpapers - Although it's against your business model, I really think you should put it inside. It will help you in the long run.
9)easy option to put banners in the site (flash / photo).
    10)featured section on the side.
    11)send background to phone option.
12)html and XML site map - generated by the script.
13)option to change to ranks star colors.
14)an ability to remove registration/login and submit option.
    15)wallpaper downloads and view statistics.
16)newsletter registration box on the side (and auto sending mail with latest wallpapers).
    17) add to favorites link with a nice and tempting icon.
    18) adding the line "If the copyright of any wallpaper or photo belongs to you, contact us and we'll remove it!".
19)in the front page - a break after 3/4 thumbnail lines and option to put adsense code and then a continue of the thumbnails line.
    20)watermark when doing bulk upload.
    21) auto limiting the wallpaper title to 2 words (if it more they will go down a little bit and it wont be straight i the other thumbs line).
22)option in the settings to change the boxes (friends resolution etc...) order and side.

    that's it pretty much.
I think I covered most of the things
I also believe all your clients want to see these improvements.

    Thanks

  25. Hi!

Thanks for your suggestions. Most of these are already implemented in our latest version.

Also other features will appear pretty soon due to our newly created plugin system.

Starting this new version users will be able to create their own plugins with a bit of php skills but about this we will give more details in time.
